The type 9 duplex obliterator comprises 3 distinct types:
Type 9a 'QL' (No stops), in thin letters within an oval of 26 - 27 unbroken broken rays. The framed datestamp is 25.5 mm in diameter with 'BRISBANE' around the top, 'QUEENSLAND' around the foot, and a small stop at each side; in the centre, in three lines, are the time, month and day, and year in two digits. There was more than one implement (with 26 or 27 rays) and some examples also show a square with 4 small dots either side. It was mainly used as a backstamp. Known used from 1899 - 1905. Rated Rare
There is also a similar type 10 QL duplex. The main difference is in the duplex portion (type 10 has 26 thicker rays). Within the date stamp portion the major difference is that the stops on type 9a are smaller and thinner than type 10. Type 9a also precedes type 10 which was in use from 1906 - 1911. As well date stamps type 21a and 21b are very similar, so ensure that the duplex portion exists
- Type 9a (6 March 1899 - 21 June 1905) rated Rare - $12 on stamp and $15 on cover
