The type 9 duplex obliterator comprises 3 distinct types:
- 9a - QL duplex obliterator type 9 with time in the centre top line
- 9b - QL duplex obliterator type 9 with PXB in the centre top line
- 9c - QL duplex obliterator type 9 with POB in the centre top line
There is also a POB type 23 date stamp

Type 9c POB 'QL' (No stops with a distinctive curved 'l' of the 'Q' for 'QUEENSLAND'), in thin letters 3 mm high within an oval of 34 unbroken broken rays. The datestamp is 25 mm in diameter with 'BRISBANE' around the top, 'QUEENSLAND' around the foot, and a dot stop at each side; in the centre, in three lines, are 'POB' the month and day, and year in two digits. It is not known why 'POB' was inserted in some of the type 9 duplexes or what it signified. It is possible that it is similar to the usage found in the type 14 Pillarbox octagonal date stamps, where POB means posted overseas box; however no examples have so far been seen sent to overseas destinations, only within Queensland and interstate. Wytenburg suggests that this duplex may have replaced the pillarbox date stamp but these continued to be used until 1910.
