The type 9 date stamp comprises 2 distinct Code types assigned as follows:

• 9a - Numeral codes 1, 5, 9 - 15 (1878 - 1883)
• 9b - Letter codes A, A inverted / Sideways, B, C, E, F, H, J and K (1877 - 1883)

Brisbane duplex type 3(b) and date stamp type 13 are very similar but 3(b) was in use later and type 13 had a letter code which along with the date sit more centrally

Type 9b An unframed circle, 22.5 mm in diameter, with 'BRISBANE' around the top, 'QUEENSLAND' around the foot and two long curved bars on either side between them, the outer measuring 5 mm; the date is in two lines in the centre (year in two figures), with a code letter above. Mainly used as a backstamp. Dates seen range from 19 October 1877 - 24 September 1883. Code letters listed are A, A inverted / Sideways, B, C, F, H, J and K. Rated 3R - 5R. The detailed breakdown is as follows:

• Code A inverted / Sideways (16 April 1880 - 20 January 1882) rated 5R - $90 on cover
• Code B (3 April 1878 - 28 June 1881) rated 3R - $30 on cover
• Code C (25 May 1878 - 16 July 1881) rated 4R - $60 on cover
• Code E (24 September 1883) rated 5R - $100 on cover
• Code F (6 March 1882) rated 5R - $100 on cover
