The type 9 date stamp comprises 2 distinct Code types assigned as follows:

• 9a - Numeral codes 1, 5, 9 - 15 (1878 - 1883)
• 9b - Letter codes A, A inverted / Sideways, B, C, E, F, H, J and K (1877 - 1883)

Brisbane duplex type 3(a) is so similar that this date stamp is best collected on cover. It is also similar to type 13 which was in use later and in which the letter code and date sit more centrally

Type 9a An unframed circle, 22.5 mm in diameter, with 'BRISBANE' around the top, 'QUEENSLAND' around the foot and two long curved bars on either side between them, the outer measuring 5 mm; the date is in two lines in the centre (year in two figures), with a code number above. Dates seen range from 27 March 1878 to 15 May 1883. Code numbers listed by Campbell or seen by myself are 1, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. Rated 4R - 5R. The detailed breakdown is as follows:

• Code 1 (19 April 1878 - 3 October 1880) rated 5R - $75, $100 on cover
• Code 5 (4 June 1878 - 24 October 1878) rated 5R - $75 on cover
• Code 9 (17 June 1879) rated 5R - $100
