Type 10 A framed circle, 25.5 mm in diameter, with 'BRISBANE' around the top, 'QUEENSLAND' around the foot and two short vertical bars on either side between them, although sometimes only one bar on one or both sides can be seen; the date is in two lines in the centre (year in two figures), with a code letter above
It is very similar to Brisbane Type 16 which has one short vertical bar on either side and Brisbane Type 18 which has no bar on either side. A further way of distinguishing between types 10, 16 and 18 is by date. Type 10 came first and is known from 1883 to 1890; Type 16 came second and is known from 1891 to August 1895, while Type 18 came last and is known from September 1895 - 1901. However type 10 is also known used from August 1893 - August 95 in conjunction with Codes A, L and W, so extra care should be taken with these dates.
There is also a QL duplex obliterator type 4 with two short vertical bars on either side. Dates range from 9 March 1892 to 20 December 1895 and code letters seen so far are A, C, D, E, H, K, L, M, N, P and W
As it was usually used on transit mail, it is extremely rare on stamps and is almost always seen off stamp on the back of covers or on the front of postcards. Dates seen range from 25 February 1883 to 28 November 1890 and then again from 11 August 1893 to 29 August 1895 for Codes A, L (the Ls are different - the first usage is serif and the second usage is sans serif) and W. Code letters are A, B, C, D, E, F, H, J, K, L, N and W with Code A easily the most common followed by code K. Campbell gives an earliest date for this date stamp of 10 November 1880 but I am dubious. He also lists an example dated 9 February 1884 without a code. Rated Common - 5R. The detailed breakdown is as follows:
