Type 20 A large framed circle, 30 mm in diameter, with 'BRISBANE' around the top, 'QUEENSLAND' around the foot and no bars or spaces between them; the date is in one line in the centre; first is the time, followed by the month in three letters and lastly the year in 2 figures. There appear to have been more than one of these date stamps in use, with slightly different lettering sizes and positioning in relation to the outside frame.
At the time of its introduction it was the largest Brisbane date stamp in use. Dates seen range from 26 March 1897 to 19 February 1912. Rated common on stamp (although as the example clearly shows, due to the size of the date stamp being larger than the sideface issues it cancelled, clear and complete examples are surprisingly hard to find). Priced $4 on stamp, $12 for a complete cancellation and $30 on cover
- Type 20 (26 March 1897 - 19 February 1912) rated Common - $4 on stamp, $12 for a complete cancellation and $30 on cover
There are several different one line in the centre Brisbane datestamps, however type 20 is the only one with the month in 3 letters. To assist in distinguishing them see my page HERE
