Parcel Post Branch Type 4

The Brisbane Parcel Post Branch used two continuous roller types. Type 4 is a horizontal roller (P.P.B. - full stops) and type 5 is a vertical roller (PPB - no full stops). These were used on parcels. which may explain why so few of these have been seen; none of them are dated. I have only seen them on Large Chalon and 3rd Sideface issues - including on an 1895/7 2d block and on crown over A watermark issues  - suggesting that the parcel branch rollers were in operation from around 1897 till at least 1907, if not later

Type 4 - a horizontal roller type, consisting of severn horizontal bars, the inner five being interrupted to contain the letters 'P.P.B.', 12 mm high
  • Type 4 rated 3R -  $30

L-R:, Type 4 (horizontal), type 5 (vertical)
