Type NSW 3 An unframed circle measuring 24 mm in diameter. 'BRISBANE' at the top, with 'N.S.W.' round the foot (all letters san-serif), with two curved bars at the bottom of each side; in the centre was the date in two lines, month and day at the top and the year in full beneath (White type C71, Tobin and Campbell type 1a). 

Queensland was proclaimed a separate colony on 1 December 1859. However, it was only in April 1860 that Brisbane was designated as the new colony's general post office and introduced a datestamp with 'QUEENSLAND' at the foot (Brisbane type 1). Until then this datestamp continued in use.
