Type 19(a) A framed circle, 25 mm in diameter, with 'BRISBANE' around the top, 'Q. L' (no stop after 'L') around the foot and no bars or spaces between them; In the centre is a three date line with the month and date in the first line, time in the second, and the year in two digits below. Originally used as a datestamp and then from 1899 onwards it was primarily used as a backstamp (for mail in transit). By early-1900 the date stamp had become very worn. From 1898 onwards the examples appear to show the 'L' with a joined dot at the end, giving the 'L' an elongated foot
