Easily distinguished from other types as it is the only Brisbane date stamp with the year in 4 figures and a dot at each side (the only other four figure year Brisbane datestamps - types 1 and 5 - have two or one curved bars at each side respectively).
Usually seen as a back stamp and applied off stamp, the dates range from 9 August 1871 to 3 September 1873 and the Code letters seen so far are in lower case italics a to d to July 1873 and Roman capitals A to C from around February 1873. Campbell had not seen c, but had seen an inverted d which appears as a p. So the codes seen so far are; a, b, d, d inverted, A, B and C. From the handful of examples seen by me so far, a appears to be the most common code followed by code A. This date stamp is very rare and all examples are rated 4R
