The type 3 date stamp comprises 3 distinct Code types assigned as follows:

• 3a - Capital letter codes A - C (1865 - 1868)
• 3b - Italic letter codes a - d (1867 - 1877)
• 3c - Numeral codes 1 - 12 (1865 - 1881)

There was also a Brisbane QL duplex obliterator type 2 with a very similar date stamp. This was in use between 1867 - 1869 and the Codes were numerals 1 - 5 and Italic letters b - d. Where the codes and dates overlap, the type and position of the QL portion of the duplex relative to the date stamp can help in determining whether it is a type 3 date stamp or a type 2 duplex

Type 3a An unframed circle 22 mm in diameter, with 'BRISBANE' round the top, 'QUEENSLAND' at the foot separated by a curved bar at each side which can vary in length. The date is in two lines in the centre; month and day in the first line, year in two figures in the second line and a code capital letter at the top.

The dates range from 19 May 1865 to 28 July 1868 and capital letter codes A , B and C are known to me. Mainly seen so far as a back stamp and rated 4R - 5R
