4 Datestamp

Brisbane Datestamp Page

Type 4 A framed circle, 19 mm in diameter, with the inscription in four straight lines across the centre - a code latter at top, 'BRISBANE' in the next line, with the date in two lines beneath, the year being in two digits. This datestamp was unlike anything seen before in Queensland and was probably obtained from England, as it is similar to other contemporaneous datestamps used in Great Britain and other colonies. Dates seen by Campbell and myself range from 2 January 1869 to 12 November 1874. Code letters seen by me are A and B, while Campbell mentions that C and possibly D also exist
  • Code A (20 May 1871 - 12 November 1874) rated 4R
  • Code B (18 November 1872 - 12 November 1874) rated 4R
