Dead Letter Office Page
This 'Unclaimed' datestamp was applied at the Brisbane Dead Letter Office to show that an undeliverable item of mail had been advertised in the local paper but not claimed and had therefore been sent to the Dead Letter Office for further action.
Type 2 A framed oval, 33.5 x 27.5 mm with 'UNCLAIMED' around the top and 'BRISBANE round the foot. The date is in one line in the centre, month in two letters and the day and year in two digits with thick horizontal bars on either side. It is struck in black with dates ranging from September 1893 to April 1912. Rated 3R
