7 GPO Obliterator

Type 7 A vertical oval showing 'GPO' (no stops), letters 4 mm high, with three horizontal bars above and below, and a curved bar at each side. Recorded usage is 23 April 1879 to June 1895. Most examples are very worn and often the letters GPO are indecipherable. Crisp unsmudged examples with clear lettering are rare and this obliterator is rare on cover

  • Sideface rated Scarce if worn, Rare if not worn and 2R on cover
Type 7a without the thin connecting bars. Only seen on Chalons and 1st Sidefaces 
  • Chalon rated 3R
  • Sideface rated 2R on postage stamps and 3R on cover
